Summer Fitness Tips
06.23.05 (10:27 am)   [edit]
Summer’s Here! Time to tone and tan, put meat on the grill, hoist a few brewskis, and flash some flesh.

Here a few fitness tips to create and and maintain the summer swim suit body...

Kill the routine: Try alternating activity to keep things interesting. How about Monday: bike ride after work; Tuesday: jogging; Wednesday: weight training; Thursday: Yoga; Friday: aerobics class.

Spread it around: Pressed for time? Try three 10-minute sessions at different times of the day—maybe 10 minutes of cycling in the morning, a 10-minute walk at lunch and a 10-minute jog in the evening. It’s an easy way to keep your metabolism going.

Get off the beaten path: Take a hike...in a park that is. Alternate this with regular strength training and cardio.

Set goals: Find a 5k race and sign up. The objective isn’t necessarily to win but instead to have the discipline needed. As you train in preparation, you’ll be amazed at how lean you’re getting.

Get serious: Really want a fit body? Do weight training for 30 minutes 2-3 days per week, cardiovascular exercise for 30 minutes 4-5 days a week and cut back on calorie intake. That’s what it takes.

Boot camp: Despite the name, it’s fun. Just before summer, many health clubs offer programs combining calisthenics, cardiovascular exercise and obstacle courses. Just two days a week will surely strip fat from your body.

The great outdoors: There’s always something out there that you’ll love doing that also burns fat. For example, after the first few falls, you might enjoy rollerblading.

Power walk: Many parks today have exercise paths that describe which routine to perform at each station. For example, you might power walk for 20 yards and find a sign that tells you to do 10 pushups. Try it.

Morning drive: Working out in the morning can decrease your appetite and help your body burn calories all day long. Try to walk, jog, swim etc. at the start of each day to kick start your metabolism.

Whey vs. Soy Protein Sources
06.20.05 (5:42 am)   [edit]
Q & A by Dr. Bruce Miller - Better Health Series

Question: What do you think about protein supplements made from whey?

Answer: I personally prefer soy protein as a supplement. Soy protein
has been proven to be of the same protein quality as meat, milk and
eggs. It is well accepted as a protein source for over half of the
world's people. Whey is a by-product of cheese production. There are
different grades of whey and some are not as COMPLETE a protein as
soy. However, just for argument's sake, let's assume that some
particular whey is as good as meat, milk and eggs. If you consume
whey instead of soy protein you will miss the following:

Cholesterol reduction.
Breast cancer prevention.
Prostate cancer prevention.
Heart disease protection.
PMS symptom reduction.
Menopausal symptom reduction.
Menstrual symptom reduction.
And the prevention of other cancers by the isoflavones contained in
soy protein.

Whey protein offers none of these most useful benefits. Even if whey
equaled soy in "protein power", for the reasons above, I would opt
for soy every time.

Torn Rotator Cuff Testimony
06.17.05 (6:32 am)   [edit]

By Lyn Schloemer

My husband picked up something very heavy while we were traveling in Alaska.  The second he did it, he winced and I KNEW he had done something serious.  Sure enough, the MRI confirmed a severe lateral tear in his rotator cuff  and surgery was scheduled.  We decided to give additional nutrition a try. ( We both take alot of supplements) Here is what he took:
2 Special Multi-vitamin
2 C

10 Alfalfa
2-4 B complex
4 Essential Omega Three
4 GLA
3-4 Joint Health Complex
6 Lecithin

4 Calcium Mag/Plus
and a host of other supplements

When he began, he could not:
comb his hair
put on a coat or jacket withut wincing
lift anything with that arm

After 2 weeks, he could comb his hair
After another 2 he could put on a sport coat with no pain
In another 2 wks. he could raise his arm all the way up straight!
He went back to the orthopaedic surgeon and I think the doc is still scratching his head in disbelief!!!!  It was healed.

No more Pain .. increased mobility!
06.01.05 (10:45 am)   [edit]

A testimonial by: Andrea

I have to write this at my husband's insistence, concerning the Joint Health
Complex and Pain Relief Complex supplements.

After spending over $1,000 at the orthopedic specialist's office, without
receiving an guarantee that he could fore-go surgery, my husband asked me to
order the Shaklee products mentioned above.  I had told him about these
after the first visit with the doctor.

My husband has received 2 shots of something supposedly superior to the
old-fashioned cortisone shots.  Well, although he had some relief
immediately after the shots, his pain diminished only somewhat but he still
h ad limited motion in his arm.  The doctor said he had a problem with
what's called the rotator cuff, and surgery would inevitably have to follow.

Well, after a little over one week with the joint and pain relief
supplements, my husband comes home from work with a great, big grin.  He says, "It's almost too good to be true.  I don't even want to say it, but I have almost no pain at all!"  The great thing about this, in addition to not having pain, is that he can move is arm around, all he wants, and has full motion.

He works one day a week a double shift at the restaurant, where he's a cook.
He had to stop working the double shifts because he's come home in such pain
that he almost could not go to work the following day. Now, he comes home
after a double shift, experiencing minimal pain, the usual anyone would feel
after 12 hours in the kitchen!

So, needless to say, Joint and Pain Relief supplements are here to stay in
this household.  Once his order is filled, I will set him up on an automatic
shipment.

I mentioned this to my sister, whose husband is a glacier, and as such, he
works long hours working with glass.  He's been in terrible pain lately and
my sister asked me to order these products for him.  He's going to give them
a try and, if they work for him as they have for my husband, they'll be on
automatic shipment too!  (As it is, my bro-in law takes the Vitalea and just
placed his second order.  My sister who is diabetic and has a thyroid
condition, just ordered the Immune Bldg Complex.)

I'm very happy and satisfied with these results for my husband, and my
brother-in-law is, too, since he's ordered his second supply.  I expect to
see wonderful results with the Sleep relief my husband has just ordered, and
I'll keep you posted in that regard.
